Charles Kvapil (1884-1957) The church of Villiers-sur-Morin, (circa 1930) oil on panel 27x22cm Charles Kvapil is a Belgian painter from the School of Paris, of Czechoslovakian origin, born in November 1884 and died in Paris in 1957. His first works were exhibited in 1908 at the Salon d'Anvers and until 1914. After the First World War during which he was mobilized, Charles Kvapil moved to Paris and set up his studio in Montmartre, in the Hameau des Artistes, between rue Lepic and no. 11 avenue Junot, later he also lived in Villiers sur Morin, rue du Touarte. He revealed himself for the first time to the Parisian public in 1920 during the Salon des Indépendants and became more and more known, until he was able to present his works in Paris, Munich, Brussels, Geneva, Italy, Stockholm, London. and New York. He is now represented in many public and private collections, at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, in the museums of Le Havre, Libourne, Rouen, Saint-Étienne, Amsterdam and Tunis.
