Maurice Buchin (1818-1893) By the river Oil on canvas 50x61cm Born in Conliège in 1818, died in Courbouson (Jura), June 2, 1893. Maurice Buchin was a pupil of Alexandre Jean-Baptiste Hesse (1806- 1879). Coming from a family of bourgeois jurists from Lédon, son of Claude Etienne Buchin, justice of the peace, and Anne Hyacinthe Damet, related to the Lorains. A schoolboy at Lons-le-Saunier, a student at the Beaux-Arts in Besançon and in Paris, he was Assistant Curator of the Municipal Museum of Lons-le-Saunier since 1857, he is a resident member of the capital (1852-1875) of the Jura emulation society.
